Trunk Tools Closes $40M Series B for Construction AI

NEW YORK – July 24, 2025 – Trunk Tools, the AI-based construction platform, today announced a $40 million Series B funding round led by software investor Insight Partners with participation from Redpoint Ventures, Innovation Endeavors, Stepstone, Liberty Mutual Strategic Ventures, and Prudence.

The new investment will bring the total funding to $70 million, accelerating the company’s growth and helping to address the construction industry’s productivity losses, which exceed $1 trillion annually.

Built by construction professionals for the realities of the field, Trunk Tools uses advanced AI to organize and provide insight into the millions of documents–drawings, specs, RFIs, schedules, and submittals–generated throughout the lifecycle of a project. The platform enables teams to ask natural-language questions and receive instant, accurate, and actionable answers sourced from the relevant information. Fully autonomous agents are now handling entire workflows that once required human input, while simultaneously connecting data to the project schedule to flag potential issues before they lead to delays or costly rework.

Founded by CEO Dr. Sarah Buchner, Trunk Tools was born out of her firsthand experience in the construction industry. She began her career as a carpenter at the age of 12 in a small village in Austria and worked her way up to become a superintendent, project manager, and group leader. Frustrated by the daily inefficiencies she witnessed on job sites, she pursued a PhD in civil engineering and data science to address these challenges at scale, ultimately setting out to develop a smarter, more innovative approach to how construction teams work.

“Construction is the backbone of our global economy and daily life, yet the industry is still bogged down by outdated tools, fragmented systems, and overwhelming bureaucracy,” said Buchner. “We built Trunk Tools to eliminate the guesswork. General-purpose AI simply isn’t advanced enough for an industry built on proprietary data and complex workflows. This new round of funding gives us the resources to bring vertically tailored AI reasoning agents to every job site.”

Unlike traditional tools that serve as passive digital repositories, Trunk Tools functions like an intelligent teammate, structuring muddled documentation, proactively flagging risks, and surfacing insights in real time. The company is already deployed on hundreds of construction projects and has scaled revenue 5x over the past six months.

Trunk Tools is helping define a new category of AI with its construction platform,” said Jeff Horing, Co-founder and Managing Director at Insight Partners. “Project-level information in the construction industry lives in multiple siloed systems, and accessing that data is a time-consuming and error-prone process for field teams who need it in real time. Sarah and her team of construction tech experts are applying their deep industry experience to address this with modular AI agents.”

The $40 million Series B funding will support Trunk Tools in expanding its engineering, product, and go-to-market teams, growing its field enablement program, and continuing to scale the AI platform’s capabilities across increasingly complex projects but also the long tail of the market.
