Welcome to the Generative AI Report round-up feature here on insideAI News with a special focus on all the new applications and integrations tied to generative AI technologies. We’ve been receiving so many cool news items relating to applications and deployments centered on large language models (LLMs), we thought it would be a timely service for readers to start a new channel along these lines. The combination of a LLM, fine tuned on proprietary data equals an AI application, and this is what these innovative companies are creating. The field of AI is accelerating at such fast rate, we want to help our loyal global audience keep pace.
Nucleus.ai founders emerge from stealth and demonstrate that Big Tech companies aren’t the only ones building large language models
The four founders at startup NucleusAI just emerged from stealth and demonstrated they are able to build large language models (LLMs) like the Big Tech companies. NucleusAI just launched a 22-billion-parameter LLM that outperforms all the models of similar size including Llama 2 13B.
Typically, foundational models are built by 30 to 100 people with skill sets that address the different aspects of LLMs. The fact Nucleus has achieved the same or better with just four people and the open source community is a testament to the team’s overall expertise. There have been only a handful of companies to have open sourced and commercially licensed an LLM: Meta, Salesforce, Mosaic and Falcon by TII (UAE government funded) among them. With this release Nucleus will join that exclusive list. Nucleus is unique among those companies as an early stage startup.

Zip Introduces Generative AI Suite That Brings New Competitive Advantages to Finance and Procurement Teams
Zip, the intake-to-pay platform, announced a new embedded generative AI product suite that automates previously manual workflows, flags legal and security risks, and generates valuable business insights. The release, which focuses on document intelligence, integrates AI directly into request intake, approval and contract renewal workflows.
The new AI capabilities eliminate thousands of hours employees spend on error-prone data entry for purchase requests, purchase orders and invoices, as well as on time-consuming vendor contract reviews. In addition, these AI capabilities can search aggregated insights across all contracts, including key risks and vendor consolidation opportunities that would otherwise take significant time and budget to manually identify.
“Generative AI is one of our top focuses at Zip. We think generative AI will fundamentally transform how requesters, cross-functional approvers, finance and procurement process owners experience the intake-to-pay process, and have made a big bet on leveraging generative AI to improve all aspects of our platform. This is just the beginning,” said Rujul Zaparde, CEO and co-founder of Zip. “Our ability to anticipate our customers’ needs is core to Zip’s rapid adoption by companies worldwide. As genAI technology matures, Zip will implement this transformational technology in practical ways to continually improve purchasing and AP processes. We’re committed to providing embedded AI solutions that are directly applicable to the day-to-day workflows our customers already love and use, so they can deliver meaningful competitive advantages for their businesses.”
Pump Launches PumpGPT to solve AWS business support challenge
Thousands of companies rely on cloud provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) to function, spending close $100b every year. Using AWS comes with a steep learning curve and immense complexity, so it is unsurprisingly almost 10% of their budget is spent on the AWS support function. Helping these companies save that support spend, cloud spend manager Pump has launched PumptGPT the first GPT-powered AI AWS support tool trained on a customer’s own cloud environment.
Spandana Nakka, CEO of Pump commented: “Our mission has always been to use technology to democratize all aspects of AWS for our customers. First, we tackled spending, helping users save up to 60%. Now, we’re taking on support. With PumpGPT, quality AWS support should not be a luxury; it’s a given.”

Xero unveils new GenAI-driven search helping customers get answers faster
Xero, the global small business platform, announced it has implemented a Generative AI (GenAI) solution in Xero Central to help deliver accurate support answers faster for its millions of customers and users. In partnership with Coveo and powered by GenAI, generated answers are available in Xero Central – Xero’s customer support and learning site.
The use of GenAI-driven search in Xero Central leverages Coveo’s platform and works by integrating generative answers so when customers enter a search term or question, they will receive an answer as well as a list of other relevant content articles. The answers are generated from Xero’s extensive support content articles, written by the Xero team. Customers get the information they need faster, as they don’t have to keep scrolling through content to find the relevant articles they need. Customers can also filter their searches – based on whether they are a small business, or an accountant or bookkeeper – to get the most relevant answers.
Nigel Piper, Executive General Manager – Customer Experience at Xero said: “Xero strives to be at the forefront of innovative customer experience, and this is a significant step towards our goal to build a support model which brings together the best of digital experiences powered by human capability. It’s really about making it as simple and intuitive as possible for customers – whether they’re small businesses or accountants and bookkeepers – to find the information they need to solve their problem so they can get back to running their business or supporting their clients. The feedback we’re getting already on the generated answers has been hugely positive. We understand customers like to have a choice too, so customers can continue to raise a support case for one-on-one assistance, or request a phone call from one of our hundreds of customer support specialists based around the world, if that is their preference.”

Zebra Technologies and Qualcomm Demonstrate GenAI on Mobile Devices
Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), a leading digital solution provider enabling businesses to intelligently connect data, assets, and people, has successfully demonstrated a Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) large language model (LLM) running on Zebra handheld mobile computers and tablets without needing connectivity to the cloud.
This breakthrough empowers Zebra partners and customers to unlock exciting productivity gains that will shape the future of work across industries from retail to warehouse and logistics to hospitality and healthcare. On-device execution of GenAI LLMs has the potential to empower front-line workers with new capabilities so they can deliver new outcomes for their end customers.
On-device AI can offer additional personalization as well as enhanced privacy and security as data remains on the device. It also drives faster performance and lower costs as GenAI searches on the cloud can be expensive. A whitepaper published by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. suggests that GenAI-based search cost per query is estimated to increase by ten times compared to traditional search methods. By removing the need to utilize the cloud, costs can be reduced.
“Zebra’s devices are powerful platforms with cutting-edge software and AI models which we’re driving forward with our partner ecosystem to solve customer challenges and add value,” said Tom Bianculli, Chief Technology Officer, Zebra Technologies. “We’re taking GenAI to the mobile edge on-device and applying it to areas such as voice AI, computer vision, and machine vision software powered by deep learning as well as task and workflow software using orchestrated AI.”
