CRU Introduces an 8 bay 32 TB Thunderbolt RAID System

RTX800-TR

Nothing consumes Big Data storage resources quite like today’s high definition video. Now CRU, a manufacturer of ruggedized removable storage products, has introduced a portable 32 TB storage enclosure for the media and entertainment market. The new RTX800-TR has several advanced features and supports Windows and Mac environments, and uses the very fast Thunderbolt interface.

The RTX800-TR has eight drive bays and can support up to 32 TB of capacity using either SAS or SATA drives. The product is designed for removable storage and their TrayFree™ design permits the drives to be swapped without tools, which makes removal very easy, and will be very attractive to users that require high physical security. The drive bays are rated for 50,000 insertion cycles providing a high degree of ruggedness. While designed for the desktop, the drive enclosure is completely portable allowing it to be carried to job sites that require high performance storage.

The CRU enclousure comes with an integrated Thunderbolt RAID adapter and incorporates an ATTO Thunderstream 3808E RAID dual port adaptor with support for 8 SAS or SATA devices. The RAID controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, and 10 allowing users to select the level of performance and data protection they require.

Thunderbolt is a joint development of Apple and Intel for very fast IO and operates at 10 Gb/s. In addition to Apple there are many PCs and motherboards that incorporate Thunderbolt from Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, NEC and others, so the product supports industry standards.

With its portability, ruggedness, performance, physical security, and removable media, the RTX800-TR should be very appealing to certain vertical markets such as digital cinema, video editing, and others.
