The video presentation below, “Deep Learning – Theory and Applications” is from the July 23rd SF Machine Learning Meetup at the Workday Inc. San Francisco office. The featured speaker is Ilya Sutskever who received his Ph.D. in 2012 from the University of Toronto working with deep learning luminary Geoffrey Hinton. He was also a post-doc with Andrew Ng at Stanford University. After completing his PhD, he co-founded DNNResearch with Geoffrey Hinton and Alex Krizhevsky which was acquired by Google. He is interested in all aspects of neural networks and their applications. Ilya makes major contribution to both the academia and the industry in popularizing deep learning. In particular, he, along with Geoffrey Hinton and Alex Krizhevsky, achieved a major breakthrough during ImageNet2012 by achieving groundbreaking accuracy in image-object recognition, resulting in many computer vision experts around the world to begin following the lead of deep learning. This marked a major forward progress in computer vision technology and set new standards in that area. This breakthrough kindled the revival of artificial intelligence in general and deep learning in particular which now is the most heavily researched and trending topic in applied computer science.
