Vormetric and DataStax Partner to Deliver Data-at-Rest Security for Apache Cassandra™

Vormetric_logoVormetric, a leader in enterprise data security for physical, virtual, big data, public, private and hybrid cloud environments, has announced a partnership with DataStax, the company that delivers Apache Cassandra™ to the enterprise.  Vormetric enhances the existing enterprise-class security features already available from DataStax’s  massively scalable distributed database technology with protection for data-at-rest that includes encryption, enhanced access controls and security intelligence.

With Vormetric’s Transparent Encryption and Vormetric Application Encryption solutions, organizations can safely use sensitive data within the DataStax platform with protection for data stores at the file system level, as well as within the data store at the field or column level.

Vormetric plays an important role in enhancing the enterprise-class security features already available from our platform with extended safeguards for enterprise customers who need compliance and data breach protection,” said Matt Rollender, vice president, ecosystems and infrastructure development, DataStax. “We’re excited to partner with Vormetric to bring extended data-at-rest encryption, key management and access controls to our platform.”

Vormetric Transparent Encryption provides data encryption at the file or volume level without modification of existing infrastructure or applications and at hardware encryption enabled speeds. The solution includes access controls to encrypted data and security intelligence information that can help organizations identify malicious attacks on sensitive data. Vormetric Application Encryption enables developers to easily build encryption for individual fields (such as social security numbers, passwords, addresses and phone numbers) that are not critical to analysis but are a required component of reports and output.

Organizations are increasingly moving to cloud and big data environments, but are unable to reap the full benefits of these new technologies due to the need to secure sensitive data,” said Tina Stewart, vice president of marketing for Vormetric. “Vormetric helps enterprises to make full use of these new resources by addressing requirements for security, risk reduction, data privacy and compliance.”
