For this week’s installment of cool visualizations, I offer something I saw on TV one day and it captured my interest in how it engaged the lay public with a simple statistical model – a frequency histogram. On the vertical axis is Retirement Age and on the horizontal axis is How old is the oldest person you’ve known as answered by a random group of people. The coolest thing about this visualization is how the sponsor Prudential crowdsourced its creation. So instead of using the R command: hist(Prudential$RetirementAge), everyday people stack large colored dots on a makeshift graph in a park. I think most people will immediately understand whats being represented. Great, statistics for the masses!
