CaltechX: Learning From Data

I was excited to receive an e-mail today from Dr. Yaser S. Abu-Mostafa, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the California Institute of Technology announcing that his machine learning course will now be part of the edX MOOC (massive open online course) series.  I took this course a couple of years ago and gained much from it. The course has been offered many times in the past, but a few months ago Dr. Abu-Mostafa notified everyone that Caltech would no longer host the course. Apparently plans were in the making to join the Harvard/MIT edX network. I think this is a great move as it will bring machine learning to more people. The course is intense for some as it includes a lot of mathematics. The good thing is that the course content is the same as the Caltech undergrad course with the same name. The text book for the class is an excellent resource for any data scientist, “Learning From Data,” by Abu-Mostafa, Magdon-Ismail, and Lin. I highly recommend this course which starts on Sept. 30, 2013. Click HERE to register.
